Baker Hospitalised with Broken Leg After Teen Vandals Attack
Baker Attacked by Teen Vandals, Broken Leg

A baker is facing an uncertain future after a violent confrontation with alleged teenage vandals outside his shop left him hospitalised with a broken leg.

Long Kry, the owner of Rainbow Bakery in Yarrabilba, Logan, remains in hospital after an alleged confrontation with a group of teenagers outside his business about 7.40pm on Saturday, June 6.

Confrontation Escalates

The father-of-two said a group of teenagers had allegedly been taunting him outside the bakery before the confrontation escalated. Phone footage captured Kry confronting the teens and yelling at them to leave before retreating back inside the shop as bottles were allegedly thrown at the business.

CCTV later showed one teenager appearing to fly-kick the bakery’s front door, prompting Kry to run outside holding a baseball bat. As he gave chase, Kry alleged one of the teens threw an object at him, striking his leg and causing him to fall to the ground.

Attack Details

“One of them threw something at me,” Kry told 7NEWS. “It hit my leg. And I fell to the ground.” Kry said he was shocked by the incident, especially with witnesses nearby. “Even with other locals around, they were still brazen enough to attack the shop and attack me,” he said.

Footage later showed locals rushing to help the injured baker as he lay on the ground outside the shop. “I was so fearful, I feared everyone at that moment,” Kry said.

Community Outrage

The attack has sparked outrage among other Yarrabilba business owners, who say anti-social behaviour and youth crime have become increasingly common in the area. Adam Livermore from Rogue Auto Styling said local traders were fed up. “From kids on dirt bikes hooning up and down the streets, to violent crimes happening left, right and centre,” he said. “It needs addressing.”

A fundraiser launched by Rogue Auto Styling Pty Ltd and Nara Ky says Kry suffered severe injuries and requires surgery and a lengthy recovery. “Rainbow Bakery Yarrabilba recently suffered a violent break in, causing severe injuries to and hospitalising their baker who now requires surgery and a long recovery,” the GoFundMe states. “Whilst police are aware, the perpetrators are still loose and this business is now suffering and will be temporarily closed. Small business are the backbone of our community and it’s hard enough without taking these devastating blows, capable of crippling families doing their best to serve the community.”

Uncertain Future

Kry said the incident had left his family facing an uphill battle. “I can’t work. I can’t make money for our family,” he said. “There’s a lot of uncertainty now.”

Investigations are continuing and no arrests had been made as of Tuesday midday.
