Teen Charged Over Fatal Jet Ski Crash in Sydney

A teenager has been charged over the death of another boy in a jet ski crash that occurred almost 12 months ago in Sydney's south. The incident took place on July 22, 2025, just after 6pm, when a 15-year-old boy died after the watercraft he was on crashed at Georges River near Tom Uglys Bridge in Sylvania.

Emergency Response

Emergency services rushed to the scene after reports that calls for help could be heard coming from the water. The teen was pronounced dead at the scene, while a 14-year-old boy, who was allegedly on the same jet ski, was taken to Sydney Children's Hospital in critical condition with a severed arm.

Charges Laid

On Tuesday, NSW Police confirmed that the latter teen, now aged 15, has been issued a court attendance notice for one count of dangerous navigation occasioning death and one count of operating a recreational vessel negligently causing death. The charges follow an extensive investigation by the Marine Area Command.

Authorities said the alarm was raised on the night by two witnesses on the shoreline who heard someone yelling for help. Emergency services quickly flooded the area and began searching the water.

Police Statement

Inspector Timothy Carter described the officers' actions as "heroic." "The police have done their best to try and save these kids' lives," Carter said at the time. "We obviously feel great empathy towards the families."

The charged teen is scheduled to appear before a children's court on July 22.
