Convicted killer Mackenzie Shirilla reportedly confessed to fellow inmates that she purposefully killed her boyfriend and friend, despite claiming the opposite in her Netflix documentary The Crash. Anastasia, a former inmate at the Ohio Reformatory for Women, made the claims in an interview with Daily Mail.
Shocking Confession Behind Bars
Shirilla was the only survivor in a car wreck that killed her boyfriend Dominic Russo, 20, and his friend Davion Flanagan, 19. The 2018 Toyota Camry she was driving rammed into a brick building in Strongsville, Ohio, instantly killing both passengers. Anastasia said she was left deeply disturbed by her time with Shirilla.
"She said she was suicidal, but she almost looked as though she was enjoying telling the story, like she was amused by it," Anastasia recalled. The ex-inmate added that Shirilla was a heavy user of prison drug K2 and claimed, "The devil made me do it. The devil was pressing on my foot."
Documentary Contradictions
In The Crash, which topped Netflix's charts, Shirilla expresses remorse and insists she is "not a monster." However, Anastasia claims Shirilla seemed proud of her actions. "She wanted to make it sound like she was a little devil girl and that this is what she intended to do," Anastasia said.
Before her arrest, Shirilla mourned alongside the community and posted obituaries online, writing, "You had such a perfect life ahead of you. I miss your laugh, your perfect smile." Friends later revealed the relationship was volatile, with Shirilla often threatening to break up.
Shirilla was arrested three months after the crash and found guilty of all 12 charges in 2023, including murder and aggravated vehicular homicide.
