A 46-year-old man is fighting for his life after he was allegedly ambushed at the front door of his unit in northeast Queensland. The incident occurred about 11pm on Saturday at a residence on James Street in Manunda, an inner-west suburb of Cairns.
Attack details
Police say the victim was opening the door of his home when he was struck with a piece of timber. The attack left him with life-threatening injuries. He was rushed to Cairns Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Suspects in custody
According to Queensland Police, two men and a woman were present at the man’s front door at the time of the assault. All three individuals have been taken into custody and are currently assisting police with their inquiries. No charges have been laid at this stage.
Crime scenes established
The victim’s flat has been declared a crime scene, along with a second residence within the same unit complex. Forensic officers are examining the locations for evidence.
