Cabramatta crash siblings farewelled in Buddhist ceremony

Two young children killed by a car in Cabramatta last week were farewelled in an emotional Buddhist ceremony in Leppington. Brother Harry, aged 1, and sister Katherine, aged 5, died after being struck by an SUV while crossing the road with their mother.

Mother's final goodbye

Their mother, Sok Ram, who was also injured in the crash, leaned down to kiss both children goodbye at the service. She described Katherine as a lover of books, dolls, and dressing up, while Harry was remembered as gentle and always smiling.

Ram told mourners how her perfect world changed last Wednesday during the walk home from school pickup. "The came the most terrible day we were involved in a traffic accident which caused us to lose both our son and daughter forever," she said.

Father's tribute

Father Vundy Tha struggled to comprehend the tragedy but thanked family, friends, and the school community. "It means a lot. It means a lot. Thank you," he said. Photos of the family, including birthday parties, holidays, and Katherine's first day of school, were displayed during the service.

Forgiveness for driver

Remarkably, the parents hold no anger toward the 56-year-old driver, who has not been charged. "I forgive him already," Tha said last week. Police continue to investigate the incident. Katherine's school will hold a memorial for classmates later this week.
