A man has died after allegedly stealing two knife blocks from a shopping centre on Brisbane’s northside and fleeing the scene on foot. Police were called to Brookside Shopping Centre at Mitchelton about 10.50am on Wednesday following reports of a shop theft. Responding officers located the man nearby about 11am after he is believed to have collapsed. He was found unresponsive.
Police Attempt CPR
“Officers immediately commenced CPR; however, it was unsuccessful, and the man was declared deceased at the scene,” Queensland Police said in a statement. “A report will be prepared for the coroner. Investigations are ongoing.”
Details of the Incident
It is understood the man allegedly took two knife blocks from a Robin’s Kitchen store before running from the shopping centre, dropping one of the knife blocks as he fled, The Courier Mail reported. Witnesses told police the man had been whistling inside the store before allegedly grabbing the knife blocks and bolting. The incident has left shoppers and staff in shock, as police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the man’s death. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.
