Perth mum's tattoo fail: 'Airlie' misspelled as 'Arilie'

A young mother from Perth has taken to social media to share a hilarious tattoo blunder that has left the internet in stitches. Katie Benjamin, a mum-of-two, revealed she had her toddler daughter's name inked on her arm, only to realize she had misspelled it.

The embarrassing discovery

In a now-viral TikTok video, Benjamin explained that the tattoo read 'Arilie' instead of 'Airlie'. She could not contain her laughter as she said: 'Guys, I just got my tattoos done and I've just realised I spelt Airlie's name wrong.'

'How did I not check the spelling before she did it?' she managed to say between giggles. The clip has amassed nearly 126,000 views since it was posted.

Looking on the bright side, she added: 'It's an easy fix, though.'

Social media reactions

Benjamin then adjusted the camera to focus on the new ink, which displayed the two letters reversed. 'I have my daughter's name spelt wrong!' she exclaimed in disbelief.

She wrote across the video: 'Tell me [you're] postpartum without telling me..' and captioned it: 'Nothing screams trimester 4 like a permanent spelling mistake..'

Social media users flooded the comments section with jokes and relatable stories. 'Right simple, change the kids name,' one person wrote. Another added: 'I want to see you go back in and explain to the tattoo artist.'

Many people identified with the mum, sharing similar spelling mistake tales. 'I spelt my daughter's name wrong on her birth certificate,' one person confessed. Another chimed in: 'My partner got the wrong month for our youngest [tattooed].'

Baby brain moment

Benjamin told Daily Mail that it was a 'major baby brain moment'. 'I was driving home and looked down at my arm and was like 'oh my f***ing god' and I just started p***ing myself laughing,' she said.

The mum admitted that she spent time trying to pick between two fonts beforehand, and she 'still didn't notice' the misspelling before getting it inked.

She later messaged the artist to explain the tattoo blunder, and they were able to fix it the next day. 'Lucky the script font made it easy to fix up, and now I've got a pretty funny story to tell my daughter when she's older,' she added.
