ACT Policing has released a composite image of a man they wish to speak with in connection with an alleged assault in North Canberra earlier this year. The incident took place on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at approximately 8:30 pm at a bus stop on Northbourne Avenue, near the intersection of Macarthur Avenue.
Details of the Incident
Police report that a 29-year-old woman was waiting at the bus stop when she was approached by an unknown man. The man allegedly engaged her in conversation before physically assaulting her. The victim sustained minor injuries and sought medical treatment following the attack.
According to Detective Acting Inspector Stephanie Leonard, "The woman was left shaken and distressed by the incident. We are urging anyone who recognises the man in the image or has information about the assault to come forward."
Description of the Suspect
The suspect is described as being of Caucasian appearance, aged in his late 20s to early 30s, with a slim build and short dark hair. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a dark-coloured hooded jumper and dark trousers. The face-fit image released by police shows a man with a thin face, prominent cheekbones, and a short beard or stubble.
Police Appeal for Information
ACT Policing has urged anyone who was in the vicinity of Northbourne Avenue around the time of the assault to review their dashcam or CCTV footage. They are particularly interested in any footage that may have captured the suspect or the victim before or after the incident.
Detective Acting Inspector Leonard added, "We believe there may be witnesses who have not yet come forward. Any piece of information, no matter how small, could be crucial to our investigation."
