Six individuals have been taken into custody following an alleged machete confrontation at one of Melbourne's busiest transport hubs, which resulted in a teenager sustaining injuries.
Incident Details
Police were summoned to Flinders Street Station around 10pm on Saturday after reports emerged that up to ten people were engaged in a violent altercation within the station's concourse, with several allegedly wielding machetes. Witnesses reported observing the group fighting before officers and Protective Service Officers arrived at the scene.
Four individuals who allegedly boarded a train after the incident were arrested on a platform after multiple machetes were located and confiscated. Two other suspects were apprehended elsewhere within the station precinct.
Injuries and Charges
Investigators later determined that a 17-year-old boy suffered a laceration to his arm during the altercation. He was transported to the hospital for medical treatment. A 22-year-old man has since been charged with affray, recklessly causing injury, assault with a weapon, and possessing a prohibited weapon. He was granted bail and is scheduled to appear before the Melbourne Magistrates Court on November 27. The remaining five individuals arrested, aged 13, 14, 15, and two 16-year-olds, have been released pending further inquiries.

On Friday, a 44-year-old woman was allegedly held at knifepoint while unloading laundry outside a laundromat in Delahey. Police allege that a 16-year-old boy armed with a machete demanded the keys to her car before attempting to steal the vehicle. The teenager was later arrested and charged with attempted aggravated carjacking.
The recent arrests come just weeks after a series of high-profile machete incidents sparked renewed debate about youth crime and weapon offenses in Victoria. The discussion intensified following a fatal machete attack at Melbourne's Eaton Mall in April.
