A woman has revealed the eerie response she received from her neighbor after repeatedly catching her peering through her windows with a young child beside her.
The woman, who recently moved into a unit located three houses down a driveway and a walk away from the street, shared her unsettling experience on Reddit.
"Hello all. My partner and I have recently moved into a little unit. We are the third house down a driveway - quite far down," she wrote.
Since moving in, she frequently noticed a woman walking down the driveway and looking into her windows, accompanied by a little girl.
"I've noticed since moving in that a lady comes down our driveway and looks into our windows, with a little girl by her side," she said.
When she confronted the neighbor, the woman explained that she works as a nanny for the child and often takes her for walks down the driveway to look into the windows of various houses as "something to do."
"I spoke to her today and she said she is a nanny for the little girl, and she likes to take her for a walk down our driveway to look into all of our windows at all the stuff in the houses, as something to do with the little girl," the Reddit user wrote.
"Mind you - we have a park next door, with a playground."
The woman expressed feeling uncomfortable and turned to Reddit for advice on how to handle the situation.
"I feel like a grump but... I do find this behaviour really odd and uncomfortable. If our house was facing the street I'd suck it up, but we live pretty far down the driveway. Is this legal? normal? should I say something? or just leave it?" she asked.
Commenters were quick to respond, with many urging her to directly confront the neighbor.
"Yeah not okay by my books…. Tell her you don’t like it - pretty simple," one person wrote.
"Ask her not to walk down to your end. I’ve always been honest and upfront with my neighbours. 'Hi there. I would appreciate it if you would refrain from looking in our windows as we feel that is an invasion of privacy'," another suggested.
"And possibly get cameras. If it happens again, contact the police."
Others speculated that the neighbor might be casing the property for a future break-in.
"Mmm something tells me the lady’s story is crap, and she’s casing your place to come back and break in," one commenter wrote.
"I’d ask your neighbours if they’ve seen her too and get a ring camera."
Another added: "She's definitely using her kid as a cover to case out houses to break into. I would make a report with the police, give them as much information as possible. They should investigate this especially considering a child is involved."
Some suggested informing the nanny's employers about the unusual behavior.
"Absolutely not normal. Not legal at all. If she's a nanny, tell the parents that the nanny is doing this. It's creepy as hell," one person wrote.
