Four young men have been charged over a series of alleged slingshot attacks that targeted unsuspecting pedestrians in Brisbane's western suburbs. The attacks, which occurred during the last week of May, involved metal fishing sinkers allegedly fired from slingshots at people's faces and bodies.
Victims Targeted
Among the victims were a 22-year-old woman who was struck in the forehead in Paddington and a 64-year-old woman who was hit in the jaw in St Lucia. One of the women reported that she narrowly avoided going blind as a result of the alleged attack, according to Sunrise reports.
Police Investigation
An ongoing investigation led police to pull over a Hyundai i30 on Chapel Hill Road at Chapel Hill around 11:15 PM on May 31. During the traffic stop, officers allegedly found two handmade slingshots, two "pocket-shot style devices," and a set of knuckle dusters inside the vehicle, Queensland Police confirmed.
Arrests Made
Four individuals were arrested in connection with the assaults: a 19-year-old from Forest Lake, a 19-year-old from Redbank Plains, and two 19-year-old and 20-year-old men from Chapel Hill. They are all scheduled to face weapons and assault-related charges in court later this month.
The incidents have raised concerns about public safety in the area, with police reminding residents to report any suspicious activities. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
