A Perth mother is planning an impromptu family holiday after winning $300,000 from a scratchie, continuing a heartwarming tradition started by her late mother.
Winning ticket bought at Atwell Newsagency
The mad ABBA fan purchased the winning slip from Atwell Newsagency, carrying on the tradition her mother began. “My mum and I used to buy a scratchie every Friday and scratch them together,” the winner said. “She passed away a year ago, but I’ve kept the tradition going.”
Emotional reaction and family plans
After learning of her incredible win, the Dancing Queen was quick to share the joy with her family. “I called my husband — I was screaming — then I called my son, I was screaming again!” she said. The family decided to fulfill her life-long dream. “I’ve always wanted to go to Sweden to visit the ABBA museum — I’m a huge ABBA fan,” she explained. “My son immediately said he’d be happy to go with me, and then my husband said yes too, so I guess that’s ‘The Name of the Game’.”
Lotterywest spokesperson comments
Lotterywest spokesperson Jennie Fitzhardinge noted that winners often prioritize family. “Most of our winners tell us that sharing their prize with family is a top priority,” she said.
