Avalon Airport Bali Flights Launch with Holiday Giveaway

Melbourne Avalon Airport's Inaugural Bali Flights Take Off Tonight

Melbourne Avalon Airport is set to launch its first international flight to Bali in years this evening, revolutionizing travel options for Victorians seeking Indonesia's premier holiday destination. This new service, operated by Jetstar, marks a significant expansion for the airport, providing a more accessible and streamlined journey for passengers from the Geelong region and beyond.

Bali's Popularity Among Australian Travellers

Recent data from the ABS Overseas Arrivals and Departures reveals that nearly one in ten Australians returning from holidays in January came from Indonesia, with Bali being a key attraction. Indonesia ranked as the second most popular destination year-on-year, trailing only New Zealand. Notably, over a quarter of these returning residents were heading back to Victoria, underscoring the strong demand for Bali travel from this state.

The initial flight schedule includes departures on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, with an additional Sunday service starting next week. This expansion will add approximately 120,000 seats annually to Bali, catering to the growing interest. According to sources, the first four flights are nearly fully booked, with only limited seats remaining.

Airport and Airline Leaders Express Enthusiasm

Jetstar chief executive Stephanie Tully highlighted the significance of today's launch, stating it is a proud moment for both the airline and the region. "Bali has always captured the hearts of Australians, and now it's more accessible than ever for the Geelong region and beyond. We thank Avalon Airport for their support," she said.

Melbourne Avalon Airport executive chairman David Fox emphasized the broader economic benefits, noting his family's deep investment in Victoria's success. "When we back projects like this, it's about creating jobs, supporting the community, and driving real growth. If Victoria wins, we all win," he explained. "This next chapter is a clear signal of the opportunity at Avalon. We've always known what this region is capable of. Now we're seeing it take off."

Airport chief executive Ari Suss added that the new flights aim to enhance accessibility. "This new connection makes it easier to start your holiday sooner, with a simpler, more seamless journey from the moment you leave home," he remarked.

Passenger Excitement and Convenience

Tabitha Archibald, a 27-year-old traveller, expressed her eagerness to board one of the new flights. "I've been wanting a holiday for ages, and Bali just feels like the perfect mix of relaxing and fun. When I saw it was flying out of Avalon, it made it even easier—it's just so much less stressful than the bigger airports," she said. "You can park, get in and out quickly, and it just takes the hassle out of travelling."

Win a Bali Holiday Competition

To celebrate the launch, Melbourne Avalon Airport has introduced a competition offering a chance to win a week-long holiday for four people. The prize includes:

  • Return economy Jetstar flights
  • Airport parking
  • Seven nights accommodation at Club Med

Entrants must explain in 25 words or less why they should go to Bali from Melbourne Avalon Airport by filling out an online form. Geelong Advertiser digital subscribers receive five bonus chances to win.

Ms. Archibald shared her excitement about entering the competition to take her friends. "We're always talking about doing a trip together but never get around to it. This would actually make it happen," she said. "To be honest, I just need a break. Work's been full-on, and this would be the perfect chance to switch off for a week and reset. It feels like one of those trips you don't overthink—just good weather, good food, and time to relax. That's exactly what I'd want right now."

Full competition terms and conditions are available online for interested participants.
