Jetstar to Introduce Direct Perth to Christchurch Service
Jetstar has revealed plans to launch direct flights between Perth, Australia, and Christchurch, New Zealand, scheduled to operate from October 2026 through March 2027. This new route will provide travelers with a convenient non-stop option, enhancing connectivity between the two cities.
Flight Schedule and Details
The service will include three return flights per week, departing on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Jetstar estimates offering more than 30,000 low-fare seats during this period, making it an affordable choice for passengers. The flights will be operated using Perth-based Airbus A321LR aircraft, known for their efficiency and comfort.
Departures from Perth are set for 7:45 AM, with arrivals in Christchurch at 6:55 PM local time. Return flights will leave Christchurch at 8:15 PM and land in Perth at 10:20 AM. The total flying time is just over seven hours, providing a swift journey across the Tasman Sea.
Jetstar's Commitment to Perth Expansion
This initiative marks a significant step in Jetstar's ongoing commitment to expanding its presence in Perth. In the coming months, the airline will open a new cabin crew base at Perth Airport, which will support up to 90 crew members. Jetstar CEO Stephanie Tully emphasized that this move will enable further network growth from Western Australia in the future.
Tully stated, "Basing up to 90 cabin crew in Perth will allow us to continue to expand our network out of the west in coming years." This expansion aligns with the airline's strategy to increase operations and services in the region.
Environmental Benefits of the A321LR Fleet
The Airbus A321LR aircraft, part of the NEO (New Engine Option) family, offer notable environmental advantages. Key facts include:
- The CFM Leap A1 engines reduce fuel consumption by up to 20% compared to Jetstar's earlier A321 models.
- In the first year of operation, the NEO fleet helped cut total emissions by over 16,000 tonnes, equivalent to removing 3,500 cars from the road.
- These aircraft are up to 50% quieter during takeoff and landing, contributing to reduced noise pollution around airports.
A spokesperson highlighted, "This significant noise saving occurs during both departure and arrival." These features underscore Jetstar's efforts to operate more sustainably while providing reliable air travel.
