Jetstar's Major Avalon Expansion: Bali Flights & Adelaide Return
Jetstar launches Bali flights from Avalon Airport

Geelong's Avalon Airport is set to become an international travel hub once again with Jetstar announcing a major expansion that will see direct flights to Bali return alongside the reinstatement of popular domestic routes.

International Dreams Take Flight Again

The budget carrier has confirmed that direct flights between Avalon and Denpasar, Bali will resume from December 12, 2024, marking a significant victory for the regional airport and travelers across Victoria's western districts. This revival of international services comes after pandemic-related disruptions grounded the popular tropical route.

Jetstar Group CEO Stephanie Tully expressed excitement about the expansion, stating the airline is "thrilled to be bringing back more choice and affordable airfares for customers in the Geelong region." The return of Bali flights represents a crucial step in Avalon Airport's recovery and growth strategy.

Domestic Network Strengthens

Alongside the international boost, Jetstar will reinstate its Adelaide route starting October 28, 2024, with three return flights operating weekly. This reconnection of South Australia to Victoria's western corridor provides crucial business and leisure travel links that have been missed since the route was suspended.

Avalon Airport CEO Justin Giddings described the dual announcement as "fantastic news for the region," emphasizing that the expanded services would create approximately 100 local jobs across various airport operations. The economic boost extends beyond the airport itself, with tourism operators and hospitality businesses throughout Geelong and the Surf Coast expected to benefit from increased visitor traffic.

Convenience and Competition Benefits Travelers

The expansion positions Avalon as a genuine alternative to Melbourne's Tullamarine airport, particularly for residents in Geelong, western Melbourne, and regional Victoria. Travelers can expect shorter queues, easier parking, and reduced travel times to the airport compared to the metropolitan alternative.

With Jetstar committing to these new routes, competition in the Victorian aviation market intensifies, potentially leading to more competitive pricing across all routes servicing the state. The airline will operate the Bali flights using their Airbus A320 aircraft, offering the same service standards as flights departing from Melbourne's main airport.

Bookings for both the new Bali services and reinstated Adelaide flights are now available through Jetstar's official website, with early bird fares expected to attract significant interest from travelers seeking affordable getaways and convenient domestic connections.
