A crash in the M5 tunnel has brought traffic around Sydney Airport to a standstill this Friday afternoon, leaving thousands of motorists stranded for kilometres. The incident, believed to involve two cars, has caused no significant injuries but has triggered a massive ripple effect across the city’s southern transport network.
Gridlock Extends for Miles
Vision from the scene shows an extraordinary traffic jam with vehicles banked up for kilometres, with many drivers left with nowhere to go. General Holmes Drive and Southern Cross Drive have also been severely impacted, with traffic backed up all the way to the Eastern Distributor.
Drivers Abandon Vehicles
The chaos has become so severe that many frustrated drivers have abandoned their vehicles and are standing around on the roadways. Large trucks have been spotted reversing in desperate attempts to escape the gridlock.
Authorities are urging motorists to avoid the area if possible while emergency services work to clear the scene. Commuters are advised to seek alternative routes or delay travel until the situation is resolved.
