BMG Launches Major Drill Push at Wiluna Gold Project

BMG Resources Kicks Off Major Drilling Campaign at Abercromby Gold Project

BMG Resources is set to launch a substantial 10,000-metre diamond drilling program this month at its fully-owned Abercromby gold project, located 30 kilometres southeast of Wiluna in Western Australia's eastern goldfields. This ambitious resource expansion initiative marks the first significant drilling at the site since the maiden resource estimate was defined in 2023.

Expanding a High-Grade Gold Resource

The primary objective of the drilling campaign is to expand and upgrade the existing 518,000-ounce gold resource estimate at the Abercromby project. The program will focus on extending the strike and probing down-dip extensions of high-grade lodes within the Capital Deposit, which remains open in multiple directions.

Previous drilling in the target area has yielded impressive intercepts, including 57.5 metres at 5.73 grams per tonne gold from 80 metres depth, 30 metres at 10.01 grams per tonne from 164 metres, and 77 metres at 2.66 grams per tonne from 116 metres. These results highlight the potential for substantial resource growth within a structurally controlled, ductile-style gold system.

Geological Similarities to Major Deposits

The geology at Abercromby is showing striking similarities to Ramelius Resources' 2.1-million-ounce Never Never gold deposit at Dalgaranga in WA's Murchison region. This resemblance has intensified interest in the potential for discovering high-grade gold within similar ductile systems at the Abercromby site.

BMG Resources chief executive officer Ben Pollard noted that "Abercromby is a gold project with a defined Mineral Resource and clear scope for further growth through drilling. The upcoming drill program is focused on extending established high-grade lodes within the Capital Deposit, where the Mineral Resource remains open at depth and along strike."

Strategic Location and Development Advantages

The Abercromby project benefits from several strategic advantages that could accelerate development:

  • Situated on granted mining tenure within the established Agnew-Wiluna greenstone belt
  • Located within practical haulage distance of operating processing facilities
  • Features near-surface mineralisation suitable for open-pit mining
  • Demonstrates excellent metallurgical characteristics with 93-95% recoveries through conventional carbon-in-leach processing

Partnerships and Production Pathways

BMG Resources has signed a memorandum of understanding with Wiluna Mining Corporation to investigate toll treating ore at the nearby Matilda carbon-in-leach plant. This arrangement could prove transformative, potentially allowing BMG to:

  1. Avoid the substantial costs of building its own processing facility
  2. Reduce upfront capital requirements significantly
  3. Accelerate the timeline to first gold production

Current Resource Status and Future Plans

The current Abercromby resource stands at 11.12 million tonnes grading 1.45 grams per tonne gold for 518,000 ounces. This includes 4.15 million tonnes at 1.23 grams per tonne in the indicated category and 6.97 million tonnes at 1.58 grams per tonne in the inferred category.

Contractor DDH1 Drilling has been re-engaged for the upcoming campaign, with drilling scheduled to commence later this month. Results from the program are expected to directly inform future mine planning and pave the way for a resource upgrade.

A scoping study assessing both open-pit and underground mining scenarios is being finalised, with release targeted for this quarter. With the drilling program underway and the scoping study nearing completion, 2026 is shaping up as a pivotal year for resource growth and development pathway definition at the Abercromby gold project.
