Listed engineering group Monadelphous has started the new year with a significant boost, announcing a major contract win with mining giant BHP valued at $175 million.
A Major Project in the Pilbara
The substantial contract, announced to the market on Tuesday, 6 January 2026, covers a wide scope of work linked to BHP's iron ore operations in Western Australia's North West. The project involves the replacement of key equipment during a planned major shutdown at BHP's iron ore port facility located on Finucane Island in Port Hedland.
The works encompass civil, structural, mechanical, piping, and electrical activities, all critical to the car dumper project. The news was warmly received by investors, with Monadelphous shares rising 2.3 per cent to $27.63 in early trade following the announcement.
Building on a Strong Relationship and Track Record
Monadelphous Managing Director Zoran Bebic highlighted the company's ongoing partnership with BHP and its proven capability in delivering similar complex projects. "We are pleased to build on our long-standing relationship with BHP and look forward to the safe and reliable execution of the car dumper works," Mr Bebic said.
He pointed to the successful delivery of the Car Dumper 3 Project at Nelson Point last year as a key precedent for this new undertaking. This latest award continues a positive period for the Victoria Park-headquartered contractor, which secured a $250 million contract with Rio Tinto just before Christmas.
Strong Momentum for the Engineering Firm
The contract win adds further momentum to Monadelphous's strong financial performance. In November, the company advised the market that it was on track for a 20 to 25 per cent rise in revenues for the current financial year. This growth is driven by high demand across its civil construction and fabrication work divisions.
Monadelphous's stock enjoyed a remarkable rally of more than 83 per cent throughout the 2025 calendar year, building its market capitalisation to approximately $2.76 billion. The company's latest success follows news that Henderson-based engineering and construction firm Civmec also confirmed a substantial contract with BHP on Monday for installing a sixth car dumper at the miner's Nelson Point operations.
This flurry of contract awards underscores the ongoing significant investment and maintenance activity within the Pilbara's iron ore sector, providing a steady pipeline of work for Australia's leading engineering contractors.
