The luxurious Red Hill residence formerly owned by ex-Home Affairs secretary Mike Pezzullo and his wife Lynne has been sold in what agents are calling Canberra's top property transaction of 2025.
Record-Breaking Sale in Nation's Capital
After first being listed in March this year, the premium property has finally changed hands with selling agency Blackshaw Manuka announcing via social media that it represents Canberra's highest residential sale for 2025. While the exact sale price remains confidential and hasn't yet been updated on official property records, the achievement marks a significant milestone in the capital's luxury market.
Listing agent Mario Sanfrancesco had initially indicated the "spectacular house" would likely achieve a figure at the premium end of Canberra's market when it was scheduled for auction in April. The property had been on the market for approximately nine months before the successful sale.
Architectural Masterpiece with Premium Features
The Pezzullo family originally purchased the property in 2011 for $1.95 million, according to property data firm Cotality. The couple demolished the existing structure and completely rebuilt the home, moving into the newly constructed residence in 2015.
The impressive residence is designed around a central courtyard and boasts multiple luxury amenities including three separate living areas on the ground floor plus a dedicated "parents' wing" complete with walk-in robe, library and private office. The sophisticated kitchen features elegant marble flooring and benchtops throughout.
An striking staircase in the central foyer leads to the upper level where four additional bedrooms, each with ensuite bathrooms, provide ample accommodation. Outdoor entertainment facilities include a tennis court, swimming pool with dolphin fountain, and wood-fired pizza oven. The property's rear gate opens directly onto the Red Hill Nature Reserve, offering both privacy and natural beauty.
Downsizing After Distinguished Career
Mr Pezzullo had previously informed The Canberra Times that he and his wife were looking to downsize now that their four children - Antony, Nic, Charissa and Sam - have all reached adulthood. The former public servant lived in the five-bedroom mansion during much of his tenure as Department of Home Affairs secretary, a role he held from 2017 until his dismissal by the Albanese government in November 2023.
According to Cotality data, the previous highest price paid for a Red Hill property in 2025 was $4.05 million for 29 Fishburn Street, suggesting the Pezzullo residence likely exceeded this benchmark to claim the new record. The successful sale concludes a significant chapter for the prominent Canberra family as they transition to their next property venture.
