Peppermayo Shopper Discovers Insect Infestation in Online Fashion Order
Peppermayo Order Infested with Insects, Customer Horrified

A shopper from the popular Australian fashion label Peppermayo has been left disgusted and horrified after opening an online order to discover it was crawling with insects and their eggs. The alarming incident has sparked a biosecurity investigation and forced the brand to issue a public apology while offering compensation.

Shocking Discovery in Clothing Package

New Zealand resident Jayd Graham was unboxing her Peppermayo delivery when she made the nauseating find. She had already opened two of the three garments she ordered when she noticed ants swarming on her bed. Upon closer inspection, she discovered ant eggs and what appeared to be maggot eggs throughout the packaging.

"I literally run outside chuck it on the ground. I am gagging, that is disgusting," Graham recounted in a TikTok video that showed the infestation. "I was supposed to be wearing this dress to a 21st but now I cannot. As you can see it's infested. It makes me wanna gag, it's disgusting."

Brand Response and Compensation

After contacting Peppermayo about the contaminated order, Graham claims the brand initially offered her three options: return the infested dress for a 50 percent store credit, receive a replacement item, or obtain a refund. Following several email exchanges between the customer and the company, Peppermayo upgraded their offer significantly.

The fashion label ultimately provided Graham with a full refund, a substantial $400 store credit, and a complete replacement order. In a statement to media outlets, Peppermayo apologized for the distressing experience and confirmed they were investigating the incident with their courier service to determine how the infestation occurred.

Biosecurity Investigation Launched

Concerned viewers in the comments section of Graham's TikTok video urged her to contact biosecurity authorities, which she promptly did. Biosecurity New Zealand responded by visiting her home, collecting samples from the contaminated package, and sending them to a laboratory for analysis.

Carolyn Bleach, Incursion Investigation Manager at Biosecurity New Zealand, confirmed the investigation in a statement provided to PerthNow. "Biosecurity New Zealand collected a single package of clothing after a notification from an Auckland resident last week," Bleach explained.

The analysis identified the insects as Iridomyrmex suchieri ants, a species already established in New Zealand that poses no significant biosecurity risk. Bleach emphasized that while New Zealand's biosecurity system includes multiple protective layers such as x-ray scanning, detector dogs, and various treatment options, pests can occasionally slip through these defenses.

Online Shopping Risks Highlighted

This disturbing incident serves as a stark reminder of potential hazards associated with online shopping, particularly when items are shipped across borders. While Peppermayo has resolved the compensation issue with the affected customer, the experience has raised questions about quality control and packaging standards in e-commerce.

The fashion brand's investigation with their courier partner continues as they work to prevent similar occurrences in the future. Meanwhile, biosecurity officials stress the importance of public vigilance and prompt reporting when unusual pests or contaminants are discovered in imported goods.
