The Coffee Club has closed its doors at 140 William Street in Perth's central business district, marking the end of a popular cafe in a prime location. The franchise sent an email to subscribers on Monday announcing the closure, expressing gratitude for the patronage over the years.
Official announcement and local reaction
“After many great moments together, The Coffee Club 140 William St has officially closed its doors,” the email stated. “From cherished memories to countless cups of coffee we’re grateful you’ve been part of our journey.” Locals quickly took to social media to comment, with many noting the proximity of another Coffee Club store at 13 Forrest Chase, just a short walk away. One Reddit user remarked, “There are a thousand different coffee shops in the city centre. And another coffee club within a 30 second from the 140 location. We should be supporting the local businesses anyway. . .How does this closure affect my Perth life? Absolutely zero difference.”
Speculation about replacement
While no official replacement has been confirmed, rumours are circulating about what might take the cafe's place. One person commented, “I work at 140 William St and rumour is, there will be a Six Senses opening!” The Coffee Club did not confirm this speculation. The chain has 38 stores across Western Australia, including locations in Kalamunda, Karrinyup, Wanneroo, Rockingham, Mandurah, and Bunbury.
New store at Lakeside Joondalup
Coinciding with the CBD closure, The Coffee Club announced the opening of a new store at Lakeside Joondalup. “If you’re a local, we’d love to see you become a regular,” the business said in a post. The move reflects the company's ongoing expansion in suburban areas despite the city centre setback. PerthNow has contacted The Coffee Club for further comment.
