Guinness enthusiasts and lovers of Irish cuisine can officially mark their calendars, as Molly's Irish Pub has confirmed the opening date for its eagerly anticipated second location in East Victoria Park.
A New Irish Heartbeat for Perth's South
The popular Highgate establishment, renowned for its expertly poured pints and vibrant atmosphere, will open its doors at 774 Albany Highway on Friday, February 13. This new venture will breathe fresh life into the site formerly occupied by the Palace Arcade, extending the pub's signature Irish hospitality to Perth's southern suburbs.
Since opening two years ago, the original Molly's on Beaufort Street has rapidly become a local favourite. The East Victoria Park venue aims to replicate this success, featuring many beloved elements from the flagship location.
Authentic Irish Flavours and Hospitality
The menu will showcase staple items that have defined Molly's reputation, including the classic spice bag, succulent Sunday roasts, and an extensive selection of traditional Irish beverages on tap. Executive chef Mark McColl, hailing from Ireland, will oversee kitchen operations, ensuring culinary consistency between the two locations.
Patrons can expect dishes like beef and Guinness pie crafted with Butter Crumbs pastry, hearty steak sandwiches inspired by traditional chip shops, and a continued emphasis on seafood with offerings such as chowder, fish and chips, prawn cocktail, and freshly steamed mussels.
"We take pride in collaborating with local Irish butchers McLoughlin's to deliver the genuine taste of Irish classics and our specials," Mr McColl explained.
Pouring Tradition and Community Spirit
Behind the bar, the drink selection will feature iconic Irish brands like Guinness, Kilkenny, and Magners Irish Cider, alongside signature cocktails including a Jameson and apple slushie and the Molly's mule. The pub's commitment to quality pours is well-established, with the Highgate location reportedly selling thousands of pints of Guinness weekly, positioning it as Australia's largest independent account for the brand.
"We're challenging the local community to help us surpass those numbers at our Victoria Park venue," co-owner Lee Behan stated enthusiastically. "We believe they have the spirit to make it happen."
Roots and Connection
Owners Niall Tolan and Lee Behan, originally from Donegal and Dublin respectively, emphasise that their Irish heritage remains central to the pub's identity. The name Molly's draws inspiration from the Irish folklore figure Molly Malone, symbolising hard work and tenacity.
"That warm Irish hospitality is the foundation of everything we do; it's ingrained in our blood," Mr Tolan remarked. "We're excited to bring that tradition to our second home in Victoria Park and build upon the community we've nurtured over the past two years."
A Venue for Gathering and Celebration
Fitted with hundreds of pieces of Irish memorabilia collected during trips back home, the new venue will initially accommodate approximately 250 patrons, with plans to expand once an outdoor area is developed. Events and functions will play a significant role, featuring themed nights, community initiatives, and a regular lineup of Irish musicians.
"From live music and quiz nights to sports screenings and our Mo Chara Mondays for Irish expats to connect, our events calendar is the vibrant core of Molly's," Mr Behan added. "The Irish culture is deeply rooted in connection and community. We aspire to be a welcoming space where everyone can gather, celebrate, and create lasting memories."
The pub has ambitious plans for upcoming celebrations, including St Patrick's Day and Irish Mother's Day in March, promising to bring authentic Irish festivity to East Victoria Park.
