Variety WA's Annual 4WD Adventure Approaches Capacity for Pilbara Expedition

Places are filling rapidly for Variety — the Children's Charity WA's annual 4WD Adventure, with the 2026 event set to venture north on an exclusive Pilbara trek from May 23 to 31. This year's journey, titled Pilbara to Paradise, promises participants unprecedented access to some of Western Australia's most remote and restricted landscapes, with registrations already nearing capacity just months before departure.

Exclusive Route Through Remote Western Australia

The 2026 adventure marks a significant departure from previous events, offering a completely new experience that delves deep into the Pilbara and Ashburton regions. The meticulously planned route commences in Karratha and winds through spectacular locations including Millstream Chichester National Park, the pristine Onslow coastline, the historic old Onslow township, Bullara Station, and the world-renowned Ningaloo, before concluding in Coral Bay.

Participants will gain exclusive access to working pastoral stations along the journey, many of which are typically closed to the public. This unique aspect transforms the expedition into a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, blending challenging off-road adventure with meaningful purpose.

Substantial Fundraising Impact and Event Support

Variety WA Chief Executive Officer Chris Chatterton highlighted the significant impact of previous adventures, noting that last year's event raised over $250,000. These funds supported four Western Australian schools, delivered more than $20,000 in direct school grants, and provided broader funding for life-changing equipment and programs for children facing illness, disability, or disadvantage.

"This year's 4WD Adventure is a true expedition into parts of Western Australia most people will never see," Mr Chatterton stated. "The scale of the landscape, the remoteness, and the access we've been granted elevate it well beyond a traditional 4WD trip. The Pilbara demands respect, planning and access, and that's exactly what makes this year's adventure so compelling."

Logistical Details and Participation Requirements

The event combines challenging off-road travel with comprehensive medical and mechanical support, entertainment, and unique destination experiences. With more than 20 vehicles already registered, organisers emphasise the limited availability remaining for this sought-after adventure.

Entry costs are structured at $330 per vehicle, with a participation fee of $1850 per person. This fee covers meals, entertainment, overnight camping arrangements, and essential support services throughout the nine-day expedition.

Participants must also meet minimum fundraising targets, which are tax deductible. New participants are required to raise $4000, while returning drivers face a target of $6000. These fundraising efforts directly support Variety WA's charitable programs for vulnerable children across the state.

Key Partnerships and Registration Information

The expedition is supported by key event partners including C.R. Kennedy & Company, Sovereign Hydroseal, and Perth Detailing Centre, who provide crucial logistical and operational support. Registrations and inquiries are currently open through the official event website, with interested parties encouraged to secure their place promptly given the limited remaining capacity.

This annual adventure continues to grow in popularity, combining the thrill of remote four-wheel-driving with substantial community benefit, while offering Western Australians and visitors alike an extraordinary opportunity to explore normally inaccessible regions of the state's spectacular north-west.
