Norwegian Princess Ingrid Alexandra has cut her bachelor's degree at the University of Sydney short to return home to Norway, Daily Mail reports. The 22-year-old royal has reportedly already flown out of Australia to be with her mother, Crown Princess Mette-Marit, who is gravely ill with pulmonary fibrosis. Pulmonary fibrosis is a debilitating lung disease that affects one's breathing and impacts around 13 to 20 per 100,000 people across the globe.
Princess Ingrid Alexandra Returns Home
Princess Ingrid Alexandra's father, Crown Prince Haakon, has also flown home to be by his wife's side as her health declines, cutting his official visit to Japan short. Talking to the Norwegian media about his daughter's decision to return home, the heir apparent said on Monday: 'It has to do with the family situation. She wants to be with her mother.' He added that Princess Ingrid Alexandra 'has plans to complete her studies in Australia', but 'how long she will stay home, we will have to come back to that.'
Details of Her Studies
Earlier this year, Princess Ingrid Alexandra moved to Australia to study a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Sydney, focusing on international relations and political economy. Currently, it is study vacation, or 'stuvac', at the university, with semester one exams set to begin next week. Princess Ingrid Alexandra is only seven months into her three-year degree, and it is not known when she will return to her studies.
Security Incident
It comes just days after a 63-year-old man was issued with an apprehended violence order (AVO) after he sent a suspicious letter to the Norwegian Princess, The Sunday Telegraph reports. According to the publication, the letter was intercepted by her security detail, which prompted NSW police to investigate the incident at the college in Camperdown, where Princess Ingrid Alexandra had been staying. The incident has been listed for mention in Newtown Local Court on Wednesday.
Royal Family's Health Challenges
It has been a tough time for the Norwegian royals, who last week revealed that Princess Ingrid Alexandra's grandmother, Queen Sonja, had been diagnosed with heart failure. Following the diagnosis, the 88-year-old was hospitalised for examinations and observation and discharged the next day, a statement from the Norwegian royals read. It added that Queen Sonja would be on sick leave for a week and needs rest and adjustment of her medication.
