Princess Diana's Risqué Jokes to Terence Stamp Revealed

Princess Diana's risqué jokes to a well-known British film star have been revealed for the first time after personal letters were uncovered ahead of an auction. The late Princess of Wales corresponded with actor Terence Stamp, discussing topics ranging from her use of the antidepressant Prozac to sharing cheeky postcards.

Letters Reveal Intimate Friendship

The letters, owned by the estate of Stamp—who died last August at age 87—are set to be auctioned by Bonhams on June 15 as part of the Sound & Cinema collection. Stamp, known for roles in Superman II, Wall Street, and The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, had a close friendship with Diana.

In one letter dated October 1991, Diana thanked Stamp for a "perfect" risotto lunch, writing she was "touched to the core by your understanding of my job/role and what comes with it!" She added: "Not many people would take the time and trouble to delve into such a complex situation … Three cheers for Prozac, not the American variety I hasten to add!"

Cheeky Postcards and Jokes

Three months later, Diana sent a postcard featuring a bare female breast with the caption "All the Breast from London," along with a request for a lunch catch-up. Another gag card showed a couple in bed with the question "Why did God invent SEX?" and the answer inside: "So that married people do something at least twice a year." Diana added her own message, thanking Stamp for champagne at a "lunch a la yeast."

The auction has sparked interest among royal memorabilia collectors, offering a rare glimpse into Diana's private humor and personal relationships. The letters are expected to fetch significant bids due to their historical and sentimental value.
