Between May 7 and May 11, 2026, 7NEWS published a series of news broadcasts on television and on its websites, as well as social media posts, concerning Kawsar Abbas, also referred to as Kawsar Ahmad. During this coverage, a photograph of Fatma Mallouk was mistakenly used in those publications.
Ms Mallouk is in no way associated with the crimes that Kawsar has been charged with. The use of the photograph of Ms Mallouk was an error by 7NEWS, and the news organisation sincerely regrets this mistake.
Apology Issued
7NEWS sincerely and unreservedly apologises to Ms Mallouk for any hurt, embarrassment, or damage that it has caused by this error. The network acknowledges the distress this may have caused and is taking steps to ensure such an error does not occur in the future.
