Armadale Idol Kicks Off with Charlie Moon Judging 2026 Arts Festival
Armadale Idol: Charlie Moon Judges 2026 Arts Festival

The inaugural Armadale Idol has officially commenced in Perth's south-eastern suburbs, offering talented vocalists the chance to perform before a panel of esteemed local music industry professionals.

Australian Idol top eight finalist Charlie Moon, also known as Meader, joins the judging trio alongside Sony-signed singer-songwriter Veronica Bravo and respected Perth vocal coach Sam Rabbone.

The competition is divided into three categories: Junior Idol, Senior Idol, and a Singer/Songwriter group. Preliminary rounds were held on Sunday, May 3, with a grand finale scheduled for May 17 to showcase the qualifying talents.

This initiative serves as a headline event of the Armadale Arts Festival, running from May 1 to May 17. It has been designed as a platform for local residents to perform in front of industry experts while receiving immediate feedback.

Prizes are up for grabs, including gift cards, a Gig School course focusing on live performance, songwriting, and the music industry, as well as an opportunity to perform at a future City of Armadale event.

Judging Panel Draws Praise

City of Armadale Mayor Ruth Butterfield expressed enthusiasm about the calibre of judges involved in the contest's first year.

“To have judges of this level involved in an inaugural event is a fantastic outcome and speaks to the quality and ambition behind Armadale Idol,” she said.

“This is a great opportunity for local performers to step forward, share their talent and gain valuable experience in a supportive and community-focused environment.”

Judges' Local Connections

Each judge has ties to the Armadale area, creating a full-circle moment. Moon previously worked as a singing teacher in Kelmscott before sharing his vocals and signature orange beanie on Australian Idol this year.

He found irony in now serving as a judge. “Weird being on the other side of the desk! On the judging panel today for Armadale Idol with City of Armadale,” he posted on Instagram. “Good fun and great talent in Perth!”

Bravo, an original judge of the former Kelmscott Idol, added, “What an honour!” While vocal coach and long-time community member Rabbone said, “What a day!! What talent!!”

The public can attend the Armadale Idol finale showcase on Sunday, May 17.
