A 26-year-old man from Canberra's inner north has been charged following an alleged incident in which he threatened to kill his housemate. The events unfolded on Tuesday, May 12, in the suburb of Braddon, according to ACT Policing.
Police allege that around 6pm on that day, the two men were in the kitchen of their shared residence when the accused shoved his housemate, causing him to lose his balance. The situation escalated as the 26-year-old is accused of grabbing the victim by the throat. He then allegedly picked up a knife and pressed it against the victim's chest.
The alleged offender eventually released his housemate, who subsequently sought medical treatment for injuries sustained during the altercation, a police spokeswoman confirmed.
The accused was arrested around 9pm on Wednesday, May 13, and has been charged with reckless threat to kill a person and assault occasioning bodily harm. He is scheduled to appear before the ACT Magistrates Court on Thursday, May 14.
This incident highlights the seriousness of domestic disputes and the swift response by law enforcement to ensure public safety.
