The Illawarra Turf Club has announced a heartfelt tribute to the late sports reporter Tim Barrow, renaming a race in his honour. Barrow, a beloved figure in local journalism, passed away in 2023 after a long career covering sports in the Illawarra region.

The Tim Barrow Memorial Race will be held at the Illawarra Turf Club's upcoming meeting, celebrating his contributions to the community. Barrow, who worked for the Illawarra Mercury for more than three decades, was known for his passion for sports and his dedication to telling the stories of local athletes.
Community Tributes
Club officials and colleagues have expressed their deep respect for Barrow, describing him as a dedicated journalist who always went the extra mile. Illawarra Turf Club chief executive John Keogh said, "Tim was a great supporter of racing and a wonderful advocate for all sports in the region. We are proud to honour his memory in this way."
Barrow's family also welcomed the tribute, with his wife Jane saying, "Tim would have been humbled by this recognition. He loved the Illawarra and its sporting community, and this race will ensure his name lives on."
