Nicole Kidman fans will have the chance to get up close with Hollywood glamour as an extravagant hot pink gown worn by the Australian actress during her Moulin Rouge! days is set to be auctioned.
Kidman wore the evening gown, created by Danish designer Isabell Kristensen in 1998, during the promotion of the 2001 hit film in which she starred as Satine opposite Ewan McGregor. The movie was a global success and helped cement Kidman as one of the leading actresses of her generation.
The auction will take place next Monday at the Danish auction house Bruun Rasmussen, and the dress is expected to be sold for $4,000 to $6,000 AUD. Bruun Rasmussen memorabilia specialist Peter Broe said the garment is a "bespoke fashion creation with a direct link to one of the greatest film stars of our time."
"The craftsmanship is executed with remarkable precision and quality, and its unique history makes it highly appealing to both fashion enthusiasts and collectors," he said.
The Hollywood-esque dress reflective of the Moulin Rouge! era appeared in the Danish edition of Elle (August 2001), where Kidman is pictured wearing it. Kristensen is renowned for her extravagant creations and has spent years designing gowns for international clients, including appearances on the red carpet, from her base in Chelsea, London.
It comes after reports Kidman and Hugh Jackman came to blows amid the fallout from his divorce from Deborra-Lee Furness, with Kidman taking Furness's side. Furness and Jackman announced their separation in September 2023 after 27 years of marriage, and it seems Kidman has been helping her girlfriend out.
"Nicole's loyalty has to be with Deb as she's been a shoulder for her many times throughout the past three years," an insider told Woman's Day. "(Nicole) can't bear to see her dear friend suffer any more than she has to, and she's doing everything she can to get Deb back in charge," the source continued, adding that a newly single Kidman, who split from Keith Urban last year, is trying to get Furness back into the dating game. "They're leaning on each other and with Nicole already booting up her dating life, it's hard for Deb to not feel encouraged."
Though Kidman was once close friends with Jackman, with whom she starred in the 2008 film Australia, she's allegedly "staying away" from him and his new partner Sutton Foster until the "situation is more comfortable."
