CCTV has captured the dramatic arrest of a man accused of assaulting three people during a violent rampage through a popular restaurant area in Adelaide CBD.
Just after 7.30pm on Thursday, a shirtless man allegedly ran down Moonta Street in an attempt to escape police, weaving through diners before ducking into a food court to hide in a booth. Officers were close behind and quickly swarmed, making the arrest.
According to SA Police, the man had moments earlier walked into a Gouger Street hotel and allegedly assaulted a security guard, leaving him with minor facial injuries.
Police say he then left the venue and assaulted a woman, who they believe was known to him, in the middle of the street.
SAPOL also alleges the same man was involved in an earlier incident about an hour before, when he punched another man in the face while walking along Gouger Street.
Gaucho’s owner Joe Puntureri told 7NEWS the precinct is safer than it was a year ago, praising the rapid police response.
“Last night there was an isolated issue as far as I’m concerned. The police were on it immediately — five or six cars straight away. That tells me the street’s being looked after,” he said.
A 38-year-old man from Largs Bay, near Port Adelaide, was later charged with two counts of aggravated assault, breach of intervention order, and one count of assault.
He was refused bail to appear in Adelaide Magistrates Court on Friday.
SA Police have said there were many people in the area at the time and are urging anyone with mobile phone footage or additional CCTV to contact police.
