Perth Woman Must Enter Child Exploitation Pleas

A Perth woman linked to acclaimed author Craig Silvey has been ordered to enter pleas to child exploitation charges at her next court appearance. Glenda J. McGregor, 45, appeared in the Perth Magistrates Court on Tuesday via video link from prison.

Charges and Allegations

McGregor faces 10 charges, including possessing child exploitation material and using a carriage service to access child abuse material. The alleged offences occurred between 2018 and 2020. Police allege she shared explicit images of children online.

Link to Craig Silvey

McGregor is known to be a former partner of Craig Silvey, the award-winning author of Jasper Jones. Silvey has not been charged with any offence and is not a person of interest in the investigation. The court was told that McGregor's legal team is still reviewing evidence.

Court Proceedings

Magistrate Elizabeth Woods adjourned the case to March 28, 2025, and ordered McGregor to enter pleas on that date. She was remanded in custody. The prosecution indicated that the case may be committed to the District Court for trial.

Defence Response

Defence lawyer John Hammond said his client intended to defend the charges. He noted that the evidence included a large volume of digital material that required careful examination. He requested additional time for review.

The magistrate agreed, stating that the seriousness of the charges warranted thorough preparation. McGregor showed no visible emotion during the brief hearing. She is expected to enter formal pleas at the next court date.
