Perth music fans have been left fuming after Post Malone omitted Western Australia from the Australian leg of his “big ass world tour”.
Tour announcement sparks backlash
The 30-year-old singer announced the tour on Thursday, which he is bringing to Australia and New Zealand this October with support from Grammy-nominated artist Don Toliver.
Postie will kick off his Australian run of shows in Melbourne on October 9 before stopping off in Ballarat, Brisbane, Sydney, Newcastle, Sunshine Coast and Auckland on October 21.
Following the announcement on Instagram, Perth fans flooded the superstar’s post with “no Perth” comments and messages of disappointment. Some even went as far as to say he was incorrect in labelling it a “world tour”.
“It’s not a world tour, dude, you’re doing an ‘east coast tour’ like be for real,” one fan said. Another added: “Don’t say you’re doing an Australian tour when you’re only covering one side of it and forgetting the rest.”
“So big they missed Perth?!!” a third commented. Others were annoyed that smaller towns like Ballarat and Sunshine Coast got a concert over Perth with more than two million residents, according to the ABS.
“Doesn’t include Adelaide and Perth, how can you even call where you’re going a world tour?” one fan said. “Ballarat but no Perth is actually insane,” another fan wrote. “Dude, how tf does fkn Ballarat get a gig but Perth doesn’t? Wild,” a third added.
Another fan lamented that Perth “always misses out”.
Previous Perth visits
Malone was last in Australia and New Zealand for a sold-out arena run and Spilt Milk shows in 2023, for which he came to WA. At the Perth festival, he invited super fan Putroe Sambinoe Meutuahup on stage to perform his hit song Stay with him.
In early 2023, Malone toured with The Red Hot Chilli Peppers and made headlines after he was refused entry into The QT hotel’s rooftop for his tattoos. Following Malone’s comments to The West Australian, the QT issued an apology to the rapper.
“They turned me away for my tattoos … I’ve never really experienced anything like that,” he told The West Australian at the time while waiting to enter another venue.
Tour delay and personal news
His tour news comes just weeks after the rapper said on Instagram that he was pushing the tour back by about three weeks, citing the need to finish new music before heading out on the road.
Meanwhile, Malone and his ex-fiancée, Hee Sung “Jamie” Park, have officially settled their months-long custody battle over their three-year-old daughter. The former couple got engaged in 2022 but called the marriage off two years later.
