Police are seeking witnesses following an alleged assault on a teenage girl in Grovedale on Sunday afternoon.
Incident Details
The incident is believed to have occurred around 2:30 PM on April 28, 2024, near the intersection of Pioneer Road and Heyers Road. The 16-year-old girl was reportedly walking alone when she was approached by an unknown individual.
According to police, the suspect allegedly grabbed the victim and assaulted her before fleeing the scene on foot. The teenager sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene by paramedics.
Description of Suspect
Authorities have released a description of the suspect, described as a male of Caucasian appearance, aged between 18 and 25, with a slim build and short brown hair. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a dark-colored hooded jumper and jeans.
Police Appeal
Detective Senior Constable Mark Thompson of the Geelong Police Service said, "We are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has any information that could assist the investigation to come forward."
"We believe there may have been people in the area at the time who saw something suspicious. Even the smallest detail could be crucial to our inquiries," he added.
Community Concerns
The assault has raised concerns among local residents about safety in the area. Grovedale resident Sarah Mitchell said, "It's frightening to think something like this could happen in broad daylight. We need to look out for each other."
Police have increased patrols in the area and are working with local schools to provide safety advice to students.
