Supercars legend Jamie Whincup has poked fun at a man’s bizarre car crash into Triple Eight’s Banyo headquarters in Queensland.
The team received a 3.30am phone call from police this week declaring “you might be the victim of a ram raid”, according to Apex Hunters United.
The page, run by Triple Eight’s endurance co-driver Scott Pye, shared vision of Whincup standing in front of the crashed Nissan Qashqai and walking viewers through the incident in the dark.
“Welcome back to Triple Eight TV — never a dull moment here at 40 Depot St,” Whincup said.
“Old mate’s come up the street, hasn’t realised there’s a right angle at the end of Depot, flies straight through the fence.
“Done an unbelievable job to miss the pylon sign and the fire hydrant.”
CCTV footage then showed the Nissan perfectly flew through the gap before striking the building.
Other angles then revealed the driver exiting the car through the passenger side before fleeing on foot — before Whincup showed the damage.
“He’s got the seatbelt — this is not recommended, putting the seatbelt behind you,” he said.
“So he’s cracked his head on the windscreen then done a runner.”
The pole to protect the building had only been planted a couple of weeks ago, Whincup added.
A headlight made its way into the factory — but Whincup appeared both shocked and pleased that it was not, in fact, a ram raid.
“Quality driving. Anyway, just did a runner, up the street, gone. Happy days,” he said.
