Looking to upgrade yours or your partner's outerwear this winter? Look no further. This week, Uniqlo has dropped a highly-anticipated collaboration with the legendary Japanese brand NEEDLES in Australia.
Following a sell-out season in the Northern Hemisphere, the collaboration brings together Japanese high-end streetwear label NEEDLES with Uniqlo's signature accessible price point in a way that feels genuinely considered.
Over on the Uniqlo website right now, you can snag yourself a ridiculously-good-quality fleece for an exorbitantly inexpensive price (prices start from just $59.90). There are four different pieces in the collection, each of which is available in different colours.
Collection Highlights
Shoppers that are quick to move can get their hands on a Fleece Full-Zip Jacket ($79.90), a Fleece Oversized Cardigan ($59.90), a Fleece Cardigan ($59.90) and Fleece Wide Pants ($59.90). The standout has to be the Fleece Full-Zip Jacket with its thick, long-pile fleece fabric. But the oversized cardigan was also one of the first items to fly off the virtual shelves in the Northern Hemisphere, thanks to its super-chic cut and the way it falls.
Design and Inspiration
NEEDLES, founded by Keizo Shimizu under the Nepenthes Group, is known for its distinctive silhouettes and butterfly motif, which feature across the collaboration. Commenting on the new collaboration with UNIQLO, Keizo Shimizu said: "Since founding NEPENTHES in 1988 and establishing NEEDLES in 1995, we have continued to share our thoughts and ideas with the world at our own pace from our location in Jingumae, in Tokyo. By adding the butterfly motif and silhouette to give UNIQLO's signature fleece a NEEDLES feel, we have created iconic and special items. We look forward to bringing the world of NEEDLES to a wider audience through this collaboration."
The combination of NEEDLES's attention to detail and UNIQLO's fleece has produced a special collection that embodies the beauty in basic design. Four types of items are available in simple, single tone colours of black, gray, beige and purple.
