Leederville's JB O'Reilly's Sets Guinness Record on St Patrick's Day

Perth's CBD was transformed into a vibrant sea of emerald on Tuesday as the Irish community and honorary locals kicked off St Patrick's Day with immense enthusiasm and traditional craic. At the heart of the festivities was Leederville's iconic JB O'Reilly's, where staff celebrated their most significant St Patrick's Day to date, marked by record-breaking pints of Guinness.

Record-Breaking Crowds and Celebrations

By 2pm, nearly 1000 punters had already swamped the venue, eagerly sinking pints of anything Irish. The expats in the crowd praised Western Australia for dialling the Irish spirit up to the maximum, with many noting the celebration surpassed those in Ireland itself.

Shauna Bryan, 25, expressed her admiration, stating, "Australia does it better than at home because there's more Irish here than at home." Meanwhile, Rachel Dolan, 27, who previously lived in Sydney, declared JB O'Reilly's the best Irish pub in the country, adding, "I moved here four years ago. I love Australia, it's turned into Ireland — especially today. We don't really celebrate at home, definitely not as much here, the Aussies just need to make it a bank holiday."

Local Enthusiasm and Unique Reasons to Celebrate

The celebration attracted not only those with Irish heritage but also locals like Sarah Evans, 23, who has no Irish background. She requested the day off work specifically to join the fray after witnessing the fun last year, saying, "I live down the road, and we just love this pub. We saw how fun it looked last year so we had to come."

Others had more unique motivations, such as Jessica Warren, 25, who joined the festivities for a very specific reason: "I love the Irish men — I am looking for a tall ranger specifically." The event also featured traditional Irish dancers, adding to the authentic atmosphere.

Massive Demand and National Trends

The scale of the celebration is backed by massive demand, as Australians were expected to consume more than 1.2 million litres of Guinness this St Patrick's Day. This highlights the growing popularity of the holiday across the nation, with JB O'Reilly's in Leederville leading the charge in Perth.

The pub's success reflects a broader trend of cultural celebrations thriving in Western Australia, bringing communities together for joyous occasions. As the day unfolded, the emerald-clad crowds continued to pack the venue, ensuring that this St Patrick's Day would be remembered as one of the most lively and record-setting in recent memory.
