Western Australia Police have pledged a significant and highly visible security operation for Perth's city centre New Year's Eve celebrations, which are forecast to attract a crowd exceeding 100,000 people. The event promises one of the largest fireworks displays the city has ever seen.
Spectacular Shows and Key Precincts
The festivities will kick off with a family-friendly 12-minute fireworks display at 8:30pm. The main event, a grand 15-minute pyrotechnic production, will illuminate the sky over Elizabeth Quay at midnight. Revelers in Northbridge will also enjoy a rooftop fireworks show as the new year begins.
Police confirmed that the Perth CBD is one of five key entertainment zones where officers will be actively deployed. The other major metropolitan and regional sites include Fremantle, Scarborough, Hillarys, and Mandurah. A police spokesman urged the public to enjoy the night responsibly, stating: "We encourage everyone to respect themselves and others – stay safe and have fun."
Bigger and Better Displays for a Massive Night
City of Perth Lord Mayor Bruce Reynolds said council rangers would bolster police efforts on what he anticipates will be a "massive" night. He revealed that following last year's hugely successful event, the goal is to deliver an even more impressive spectacle this year.
Cardile Fireworks has again been entrusted with the show, with owner Rob Cardile returning after producing the city's inaugural display in 2024. Cr Reynolds acknowledged the high expectations, noting Cardile had set a very high bar. "I have no doubt he’ll be tinkering with things to make it bigger and better," the Lord Mayor said.
Family Fun and Statewide Celebrations
Beyond the pyrotechnics, a variety of free entertainment will be available for families. Barrack Square will feature interactive circus-style performances, including aerial acts, alongside food trucks and seating. The Lotterywest family fun zone at Supreme Court Gardens will offer free carnival rides.
While Elizabeth Quay is tipped to be the most popular spot, Cr Reynolds pointed out other vantage points like the foreshore, South Perth, and Kings Park. Meanwhile, Mandurah will host its own fireworks at 9pm and midnight, with a live performance from pop group Sheppard. Additional free fireworks displays are scheduled for Mindarie, Rockingham, and Rottnest Island. Fremantle will conclude the festive period with a New Year's Day concert at the Fremantle Arts Centre.
