Iconic Perth Band Reunites for WA Day Celebration
Perth's beloved indie rock band Little Birdy will reunite for a special performance at this year's WA Day Festival, bringing their classic hits to Burswood Park in a free concert that promises to delight both original fans and a new generation of music lovers.
The band, fronted by the charismatic Katy Steele, will be joined by East Coast-based members Simon Leach and Scott O'Donoghue for the festival happening on November 22 and 23, 2025.
A Stellar Lineup of WA Talent
Little Birdy forms part of an impressive lineup of Western Australian artists set to perform at the community celebration. The festival will feature multiple local acts including Drapht, Jebediah, South Summit, Voyager Ullah and Dolce Blue, showcasing the depth of talent from the state.
This performance comes fresh off the back of Little Birdy's successful reunion tour in August, which celebrated the 21st anniversary of their debut album BigBigLove. That tour reminded audiences why songs like Relapse and Beautiful To Me became such beloved anthems during the band's meteoric rise in the 2000s.
Timeless Music for New Generations
Steele expressed excitement about reaching both original fans and new audiences through the free community event. "It showed us that the songs are kind of timeless," she said. "So we feel really happy to be involved. I'm hoping to reach a new audience with it being a free event, so people can bring their kids and hopefully make some new memories."
The lead singer described the upcoming show as a "bit of a throwback" that still feels fresh, noting that "it still feels like yesterday that we were at the top of our game."
Having witnessed two decades of Western Australia's music scene evolution, Steele emphasized the importance of supporting local artists. "It's just so important to support your local industry, because Tame Impala and Empire Of The Sun, these are bands that started on stages like this," she explained.
"You have to invest in art and culture. Otherwise, Perth would be a really dull place without music. I think any support that we can get from the government to allow us to keep making music and keep telling our stories is really important and appreciated as an artist."
While fans eagerly anticipate the WA Day performance, they have even more to look forward to. Steele continues her solo work with a new single releasing on November 14, followed by regular new music every six to eight weeks. Additionally, Little Birdy fans should keep an ear out for new band music expected next year.
The WA Day Festival is supported by BHP, WA Government, and Lotterywest. Organizers encourage attendees to use public transport when traveling to Burswood Park. For complete festival details, visit waday.com.
