New Found Glory Guitarist Chad Gilbert Reveals New Brain Tumor Battle
Chad Gilbert, the 45-year-old guitarist for the American punk band New Found Glory, has publicly disclosed that he is confronting another serious health challenge with cancer. This latest development emerged after he experienced a troubling symptom while performing on stage.
Symptoms Emerge During Live Performance
During a concert in Nashville, Tennessee, on February 20, Gilbert suddenly lost control of his left hand while playing. Over the subsequent days, his condition deteriorated further, as he also lost control of his left leg, leading to instances of stumbling and occasional falls. These alarming signs prompted immediate medical attention.
Diagnosis and Medical History
A CT scan conducted shortly after revealed the presence of three new tumors in Gilbert's brain. This marks the latest chapter in his ongoing battle with cancer, which began in December 2021 when he was found unresponsive at his home and diagnosed with a rare form of the disease. The cancer reappeared in his spine the following year, and in 2023, Gilbert announced he would undergo an intensive round of chemotherapy to address additional tumors in his lungs and back.
Successful Surgery and Recovery Progress
In a social media post shared on Monday, local time, Gilbert provided an update on his health. He underwent brain surgery on February 27, which was deemed successful, and he has been recovering in the hospital since then. Remarkably, he regained function in his left hand immediately after the procedure. Gilbert quoted his radiation oncologist, who described the situation as "not a fatal blow and not the end of your story, just the beginning of a new chapter."
Personal Reflections and Future Plans
Despite describing his recovery as "bumpy at times," Gilbert expressed that he is feeling much better and growing stronger each day. He shared several images from his recovery journey, including a heartfelt photo with his daughter and his wife, fellow musician Lisa Cimorelli, whom he married in 2020. Gilbert extended his gratitude to everyone who has supported him and his family during this lengthy and challenging period.
Looking ahead, Gilbert remains optimistic about the future. He assured fans that he is eager to share more music and enjoy fun moments together as he continues to recover. New Found Glory recently toured Australia in December as part of the Good Things festival, highlighting the band's ongoing activities amidst his health struggles.
