The West Australian music community is mourning the loss of beloved musician and teacher Guy Ghouse, who passed away on Friday, 21 November 2025, after a courageous two-year battle with cancer. He was 56 years old.
A Life Celebrated in Music and Mentorship
Guy Ian Ghouse AM took his final breath surrounded by his loving family, as confirmed in a heartfelt social media announcement. The post honoured him as an adored son, brother, husband, and father, whose profound community contributions are expected to resonate for generations.
Renowned as a musical director, producer, and mentor, Ghouse continued to work until just two weeks before his passing, demonstrating remarkable dedication throughout his illness. The announcement highlighted that he never complained during his difficult fight.
An Illustrious Career and Prestigious Honour
Ghouse's exceptional career was recently recognised with one of Australia's highest honours. In June 2025, he was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for his significant services to the arts and music education.
He was perhaps best known for his prolific collaboration with Noongar singer Gina Williams, which began in 2010. Together, they achieved remarkable success, becoming six-time winners of Indigenous Act of the Year at the WA Music Industry Awards. The duo released four acclaimed albums featuring Noongar language.
Born in Perth on 8 January 1969, Ghouse's story began just ten days after his Malaysian-born parents arrived in Australia aboard a cargo ship.
