Perth Park $217.5 Million Project Moves Forward Amidst Continued Opposition

Construction activities are progressing steadily at the $217.5 million Perth Park project in Burswood, despite renewed protests over the weekend. Images shared on social media by the Save Burswood Park Alliance show a digger tearing up grass at the park entrance, which is believed to be creating a vehicle access point from Roger Mackay Drive.

One emotional commentator expressed, "My heart is breaking," reflecting the deep concerns of local residents and activists. The project, announced on February 1, has led to the closure of the park to the public following the AFL Origin game last Saturday, with no current public access available.

Early Construction Works Underway

Initial on-site efforts include the installation of fencing, establishment of site offices and access tracks, laydown areas, service identification, monitoring equipment, and selective vegetation clearing to facilitate these early stages. Wayfinding signage is expected to be implemented soon to advise pedestrians of detour arrangements during the construction period.

Protesters gathered at the park on Saturday, continuing their fight against the development. Signs opposing the proposal have been placed on newly erected fences, highlighting the ongoing community resistance.

The project remains a contentious issue, balancing development goals with public sentiment and environmental considerations.
