Bushfire shuts Brand Highway near Gingin

Bushfire Erupts, Forces Highway Closure

Firefighters are engaged in a fierce battle against a raging bushfire that has led to the closure of Brand Highway north of Gingin. The blaze ignited on Monday, posing a significant threat to the region.

Emergency Response in Full Swing

The fire was first reported near midday in the Moore River National Park, close to the intersection of Brand Highway and Red Gully Road. In response, multiple firefighting units, including ground crews and water bombers, have been deployed to combat the flames.

A Watch and Act warning was issued by the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) just before 1pm. Authorities report the fire is moving fast in a northerly direction.

Critical Advice for Residents

Emergency services are urging anyone in the affected area to leave immediately if they are not prepared to stay and defend their property.

"If you plan to stay and defend, ensure you are mentally and physically prepared, with protective clothing and an independent water supply," a DFES spokesperson said. "Make final preparations now and start patrolling your property to put out spot fires."

With Brand Highway closed, commuters are being advised to avoid the area entirely. The Shire of Gingin is managing the firefighting efforts.
