Duncraig Adventure Hub Community Celebration Postponed Amid Cyclone Narelle Weather Warnings

A community celebration for the new Duncraig Adventure Hub, originally planned for this Saturday, March 28, has been officially postponed due to anticipated severe weather conditions linked to ex-tropical Cyclone Narelle. The City of Joondalup announced this decision on Tuesday, rescheduling the event to Saturday, April 11, from 4pm to 8pm, to ensure public safety and comfort.

Severe Weather Forecast Prompts Safety-First Decision

According to the Bureau of Meteorology, ex-tropical Cyclone Narelle is expected to bring significant rainfall and strong winds to Perth this weekend. Forecasts predict between 10 and 45mm of rain on Saturday, with damaging wind gusts potentially exceeding 90km/h. Joondalup Mayor Daniel Kingston emphasized that the unpredictable nature of cyclonic weather made postponement the safest and most sensible option.

Mayor Kingston stated, "Cyclones bring weather that is hard to predict, and so the safest and most sensible option is postponing the event. While nothing is certain, the current forecast is for strong winds and rain. We want the community to be able to enjoy this celebration safely, comfortably, and with a full program of activities."

Details on the Duncraig Adventure Hub and Future Plans

The Duncraig Adventure Hub, a $9.3 million youth facility located at Percy Doyle Reserve, opened last October and offers a range of recreational amenities, including:

  • A state-of-the-art skate park
  • Pump tracks for cycling enthusiasts
  • A roller skating pad
  • A sensory playground designed for inclusive play

Despite the postponement of the celebration event, the hub will remain open to the public. However, the City of Joondalup has urged residents to stay informed about ongoing weather warnings and exercise caution over the coming days as Cyclone Narelle approaches.

This postponement reflects the city's commitment to community well-being, ensuring that the celebration can proceed under safer conditions in April, allowing families and residents to fully experience the hub's offerings without weather-related disruptions.
