A Life Cut Short: Community Mourns Beloved Logan Father
A young father from Logan has been identified as the man who tragically died after being struck by a utility vehicle in a late-night incident. Daniel Maher, 29, succumbed to his injuries in hospital just two days after the collision, leaving his family and community in mourning.
The Tragic Incident in Waterford West
The fatal crash occurred at the intersection of Chambers Flat Rd and Bourke St in Waterford West, a suburb south of Brisbane. Emergency services were called to the scene at approximately 8:19 pm on November 20.
Paramedics provided urgent treatment to Mr. Maher at the location before rushing him to a nearby hospital. He had sustained significant injuries to his head, chest, pelvis, and leg. Despite the best efforts of medical staff, he passed away two days later.
A Family's Heartbreaking Loss
In the wake of the tragedy, Mr. Maher's brother, Jamie Godfrey, has spoken publicly about the family's profound grief. He described Daniel as a loving and devoted father to his two young daughters, whose lives have been irrevocably changed.
"In just a few days, our lives changed forever," Mr. Godfrey shared on a GoFundMe page established to support the family financially. "Daniel was a loving and devoted father to his two beautiful little girls, who will now grow up without their dad."
He added that the family was just weeks away from celebrating Mr. Maher's 30th birthday, a milestone that will now be marked by his absence. Instead of planning a celebration, the family is now preparing to say goodbye far too soon.
Police Investigation and Appeal for Information
Queensland Police confirmed that the driver of the Holden ute involved in the collision, a 25-year-old man, initially left the scene. However, he later returned and is assisting police with their inquiries.
As of now, no charges have been laid. The Forensic Crash Unit has stated that their investigation is ongoing and they are urging anyone with information to come forward.
"The Forensic Crash Unit are appealing to anyone with relevant information, CCTV or dash cam vision to come forward," a police statement said. Authorities are particularly keen to speak to any motorists who were in the Waterford West area around the time of the incident.
