Violent Night in Melbourne's Southeast Ends in Tragedy
A man is fighting for his life in hospital following a violent incident that involved an alleged stabbing and a serious car crash in Melbourne's southeast on Friday night.
The terrifying sequence of events began at approximately 10.40pm on The Esplanade in Narre Warren South. A man and a woman were sitting inside a car when, according to police, a man known to the couple approached their vehicle and began assaulting the male driver.
Stabbing and Desperate Escape
During the assault, it is believed the male driver was stabbed. Despite his injuries, he managed to drive away from the scene in an attempt to escape his attacker.
His flight was tragically cut short when his vehicle was involved in a collision with another car at the intersection of Grices Rd and Glassscocks Rd in Cranbourne North. The impact of the crash was severe, with one of the involved vehicles sustaining significant damage.
Police Response and Investigation
Emergency services rushed to the scene of the crash. The injured driver was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police have confirmed that no one else involved in the car crash sustained serious injuries.
In a swift response to the incident, Victoria Police attended a home in the nearby area and took a man into custody. This man is now assisting police with their inquiries into the alleged stabbing and the subsequent events.
