Perth locals who have been enjoying the sunny skies are set to be disappointed this weekend as wet, wintery conditions sweep across Western Australia. After a week of glorious weather, the Bureau of Meteorology has forecast a four-day stretch of showers that will pour across the metropolitan area.
Cold Front Brings Sharp Temperature Drop
A cold front forming late on Wednesday night and through Thursday will bring a sharp drop in temperatures, with the mercury only expected to peak in the high teens on the weekend. Thursday is predicted to be especially soggy for residents, with experts anticipating nearly 10mm of rainfall to fall over Perth.
Bureau meteorologist Joey Rawson told PerthNow that Thursday's cold front was particularly notable to experts due to its slow-moving nature. "This front is quite interesting as it's slow moving, making it showery for a longer duration of the day," he said. "Typically cold fronts will have a short, intense duration, this one will be less intense but will cause rain over the city for most of the day."
Chilly Conditions Persist
The chilly conditions are little surprise for Perth residents, with temperatures in the city this month being three degrees cooler than the average for May 2025. A second cold front will appear in WA skies on Friday and will linger over Perth through Saturday and Sunday.
Mr Rawson warns that residents living near Perth's coastline will be hit harder by the precipitation than those living in more inland suburbs. "On Saturday, Perth's coast region could receive between five and 8mm, while people further inland can expect between two and 5mm."
Brighter Days Ahead
Conditions will ease slightly by early next week, with skies clearing and the mercury jumping back up to the mid 20s by Tuesday.
