Perth Morning Commute Thrown Into Chaos
Perth commuters faced a morning of major disruptions and heavy traffic on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, after two separate incidents brought a key freeway to a crawl. A serious vehicle rollover and a collapsed tree sparked significant delays during the peak morning travel period, causing frustration for thousands of drivers.
Vehicle Rollover Closes Lanes in Crawley
The initial incident occurred just before 7:30am on Stirling Highway eastbound at Hampden Road in the suburb of Crawley. Emergency services, including the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES), rushed to the scene after a vehicle rolled over. The crash forced authorities to reduce traffic to a single lane, creating a bottleneck that stretched back for kilometres.
Main Roads WA issued an alert confirming heavy traffic on approach due to the lane closures and urged all motorists in the area to proceed with extreme caution.
Fallen Tree Adds to Northbound Woes
Adding to the commuter chaos, a separate incident unfolded on the northbound section of Stirling Highway near Tydeman in North Fremantle. A large tree collapsed onto the major road, blocking the left lane entirely. Main Roads WA was forced to close the affected lane to all traffic, compounding the delays for drivers travelling in that direction.
This one-two punch of incidents on the same major artery created a perfect storm for Perth traffic, with significant congestion reported in both directions.
Further Incident on Leach Highway
As if the situation wasn't dire enough, a third crash was reported on Leach Highway northbound, near the entry to Tonkin Highway. This incident caused the entry ramp to be reduced to a single lane, leading to slow-moving traffic on approach and adding to the city-wide Wednesday morning gridlock.
With emergency crews working to clear the scenes and restore full lane access, Perth drivers were advised to seek alternative routes and expect lengthy delays.
