Body Discovered Near Popular Swimming Spot
An elderly man has been found dead near Kiama Ocean Pool on Friday morning, prompting a major police response to the popular coastal location. Emergency services were called to the rocks at the end of Pheasant Point Drive in Kiama at 8:30am on November 14, 2025, after the discovery was reported.
Police Establish Crime Scene
NSW Ambulance paramedics attended the scene but were unable to revive the man, who was pronounced dead at the location. Officers from the Lake Illawarra Police District quickly established a crime scene as they began investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.
While police have not released specific details about the man's identity or the possible cause of death, the incident has cast a shadow over the normally tranquil coastal area. A report is being prepared for the coroner as investigations continue.
Community Continues Amid Tragedy
Just a few hundred metres from where the body was discovered, the Kiama community maintained their regular morning routines. Swimmers continued using the rock pool and locals walked their dogs along the scenic coastline, largely unaware of the tragedy unfolding nearby.
One local resident, who had been standing near the rocks with her children when police arrived, expressed confusion about what had occurred. Another walker made a concerning observation, stating "This happens too much in Kiama", suggesting this may not be an isolated incident in the area.
The investigation remains ongoing, with police expected to provide further updates as more information becomes available about this tragic event at one of the Illawarra region's most picturesque locations.
