Massive Diamond Python Spotted Slithering Through Newcastle CBD

Commuters in Newcastle's central business district received a startling surprise this morning when a slippery suspect was observed slithering along a median strip. The incident, which occurred around 9:30 am, involved a massive diamond python that was captured on video as it slid under a tree on King Street, near a popular fast-food outlet.

Snake Catcher Responds to Unusual Sighting

Local snake catcher Bronte Hillen was promptly alerted to the situation after the video circulated. She quickly made her way to the area to assess the scene. From the footage, Hillen estimated the snake to be well over two metres in length, describing it as "pretty massive" and expressing surprise at its size.

"I was surprised by how big it was," Hillen remarked, noting that while she has received call-outs in the CBD before, this particular sighting was notable due to the snake's substantial dimensions.

Search Efforts and Theories Behind the Sighting

Upon arrival, Hillen conducted a thorough search of nearby hedges and drains but was unable to locate the python. She attributed this to the snake's active behavior in the warm weather, suggesting it likely moved on quickly after being spotted.

"It's not surprising that I could not find it," she explained. "It was quite active when it was spotted in the warm weather so it would have moved on fairly quickly."

Hillen also addressed speculation that the snake might be a lost pet from Cardiff, clarifying that the missing reptile in question is a different species. To ensure public safety, she has issued a message urging anyone who spots the python or other snakes to contact her immediately.

Public Advisory and Safety Measures

In hopes of relocating the snake to a safer environment, Hillen has called for community vigilance. "The best thing you can do if you see the snake or any others is give me a call and I can help find it a better spot," she advised.

She theorized that the snake's presence in the CBD could be linked to accessible drains and potential food sources, such as rats attracted by food scraps from nearby establishments. This highlights the intersection of urban development and wildlife habitats in the region.

As authorities monitor the situation, residents are encouraged to remain cautious and report any further sightings to ensure both human and animal safety in the Newcastle area.
